Kit Brook River Restoration
The Kit Brook River Restoration Team has been sponsored by the Environment Agency and the Blackdown Hills National Landscape (formerly AONB). Working with landowners and the community we monitor the condition of the Kit Brook alerting the Environment Agency when necessary.
We coordinate:
- A team of 11 Citizen Science Investigators (CSI) who undertake monthly surveys of the water quality across 19 sites in the catchment. We report our findings to Westcountry Rivers Trust.
- A team of six CSI who sample invertebrates, kick sampling in the river, recording the species living at six sites on the Kit Brook and its tributaries. We report our findings to the Riverfly Partnership accordingly.
- A team of CSI ‘River Morphology’ volunteers undertaking morphological assessments of the River Kit, monitoring the characteristics and ecology of the banks, bed and flow.
- Working with the Axe Vale Rivers Association to help facilitate the “fish eggs in the classroom” programme with the local Primary School, and the subsequent release by the children of the juvenile fish back into the river.
