Wilder Chardstock Community
In 2023 our group became the first community in Devon to be recognised by Devon Wildlife Trust as being a ‘Wilder Community’.
We aim to:
- Undertake small scale projects within our community, with the intention of improving biodiversity across the reach – using nature as our tool.
- Raise awareness of and celebrate local groups and individuals who go the extra mile to connect with nature on our patch.
- Work closely with our local primary school, in support of the wonderful work they do connecting their pupils with the natural world. We volunteer on a weekly basis delivering their Eco Club with the 9-11 year olds.
- Provide and care for planters at the Community Hall to provide a food source for pollinators and increase its value as a wildlife corridor.
- Actively promote Devon Wildlife Trust’s Wildlife Garden Award, recording the uptake locally. We have become a hotspot within Devon for this scheme – encouraging nature and wildlife across our public and private spaces.

Making a difference
Our most recent project involved the planting of 1500 bulbs in the churchyard, and the creation of a water feature – the church has a silver level Eco-Church award from A Rocha, and is working towards it’s Wildlife Garden Award.
